Best Paper Winner Announced for TRI's Conference on Applied Hair Science
Prize awarded to Roger McMullen from International Specialty Products

Princeton, NJ - TRI/Princeton, an international leader in hair and cosmetic chemistry research, is proud to announce that Roger McMullen of International Specialty Products, New Jersey , has won the Best Paper Award from TRI's Third International Conference on Applied Hair Science. The $3,000 prize, provided by Wella GmbH, was given to Dr. McMullen for his presentation on "Measurements of Hair Volume by Laser Stereometry." The paper explored a technique to measure hair volume via 3-dimensional laser stereometry and demonstrated how mechanical properties of the hair fiber assembly influence the volume.

Winner: Roger L. McMullen (pictured left) received a B.S. in chemistry from Saint Vincent College (Latrobe, Pennsylvania) in 1996 and a Ph.D. in biophysical chemistry from Seton Hall University (South Orange, New Jersey) in 2005. He is currently a Research Scientist in Corporate Research and Development at International Specialty Products, located in New Jersey, where he has worked for the last twelve years in the field of personal care. Before pursuing a career in the sciences, Roger served four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS YORKTOWN (CG 48).

Conference: The Conference, which was attended by 175 participants, was a phenomenal success and provided key members of the cosmetic, raw ingredient, and hair care product industries with the unique opportunity to learn about new techniques, methods, and tests from their peers. The proceedings of the Conference will be published in 2009 in the Journal of Cosmetic Science.

TRI's 4th International Conference on Applied Hair Science will be held in 2010; dates, location, and abstract submission information will be released during the summer of 2009.
